Here are the most useful resources I’ve come across since I was diagnosed with diabetes in early 2019.
Diabetes forum: Because everyone needs someone to talk to. It helps to know that you’re not alone. There are a few diabetes forums online, but I like this one as it has a focus on low carb diets. The main site also has many good articles on the basics of diabetes.
FreeStyle Libre: The key to good diabetes control is measuring. A continuous or flash glucose meter allows you to do this all the time. There are a few different ones on the market, but the freestyle libre is the most affordable and it’s worked well for me.
Diabetes M: Almost as important as the ability to measure your blood sugar is consistent monitoring. I keep the Diabetes M app on my phone and log my blood sugar and insulin use. In return, it gives me daily statistics and an HbA1c estimate. It helps you stay on track. Here’s my review.
NovoPen Echo: This allows you to dose half-units of insulin, which is essential for good blood sugar control. It also has a memory function for the last dose, which is helpful if you’re a bit of a space cadet like me. If you don’t have one you need to talk to your doctor about getting one.
